Competition stage, LED backdrop and lighting for a national natural bodybuilding championship.
What the job involved, and what it had to work around.
The project
Bodybuilding is judged under lights, which makes the lighting rig part of the competition rather than decoration. Flat front light flattens definition; the wrong colour temperature changes how conditioning reads. The stage has to be lit for the judges first and the audience second.
DSD supplied the staging, the LED backdrop carrying class, category and sponsor content, and the lighting rig. The backdrop changes with the running order so the audience always knows which class is on stage without an announcement.
Sponsors get the screen between classes, which for a championship is the difference between a banner and an actual placement.
