Junction 14 Mayfield

Large-format LED for drive-in and open-air screenings — a car park and a field turned into a cinema for the evening.

At a glance

What the job involved, and what it had to work around.

The project

What the job was

A projector needs darkness. In an Irish summer that means starting at half ten and hoping. LED does not care — a drive-in on LED starts when the audience arrives rather than when the light finally goes, which for a family event is the whole difference.

DSD supplied the large-format screen, the audio and the site build for screenings in the car park and on the grass. Cars park to the screen; deckchairs and blankets take the front.

The same rig covers a film, a match or a concert relay without changing anything but the source.

Site build

Car park and grass layouts sized to sightlines rather than to the space.

Any source

Film, live sport or concert relay from the same rig.
