StageKidz Academy

An LED backdrop and lighting rig for a performing arts academy’s annual show — a different set behind every number, with no scene change.

At a glance

What the job involved, and what it had to work around.

The project

What the job was

A dance recital runs twenty-odd numbers in an evening. Built scenery means either one set for the whole show or a crew moving flats in the dark between routines while an audience of parents waits.

An LED backdrop removes the choice. Every number gets its own world and the change happens in the half-second between tracks. For an academy that means the show looks like a production rather than a hall with a curtain, and the running time stays where it should be.

DSD supplied the screen, the stage lighting and the operation on the night, working to the running order the academy set.
