Belfast in May can give you all four seasons before the first act finishes. The stage has to be weather-tight, the screen has to stay legible in flat daylight and still look right after dark, and the whole thing has to load in and out of a city site without a week’s closure.
DSD supplied the covered stage, the LED screen behind the performers, the PA and the lighting rig, and ran the show through the day into the night — the point in an outdoor festival where a screen either earns its place or turns into a grey rectangle.
The Eclectic Love programme runs across genres, so the visual content changes as often as the line-up does. Handling that live is the difference between a screen and a backdrop.
